Contemplation, Spiritual Life

Where Is Your Hope?

Where is your hope? In a political/social system which, on this side of eternity can NEVER be lacking in corruption and persecution? (Just take a look at world history.)

Jesus’s earthly ministry was never focused on the political/social system, but on bringing hope, forgiveness, belonging, and redemption to individuals. His earthly ministry was focused on relationships. I think this is because He knew that what we REALLY need isn’t a life free of suffering and earthly injustice. But a King who is our loving Father. An eternal home of peace and worth. A hope to fix our eyes on when the suffering comes, knowing that this life is not all there is.

Every social/political system in the history of the world has been corrupt and ridden with persecution of SOMEONE or other. Don’t set your store on peace and goodwill coming from a political/social change. It’s futile. Sure- seek to hold leaders accountable for crimes committed. Defend the persecuted in real time situations. But don’t try to change the heart of evil through a powerless gospel of social change. Instead point the sufferers to their only comfort in life and death; their eternal home; their deepest belonging; the One who truly knows and sees them in their deepest sorrow and weeps with them from the cross.

Every peaceful societal restoration in history has come through spiritual revival and the spread of the gospel. This is the only way to seek future peace.

Weep with those who weep. And show them a comfort better than any political/social change, for there is nothing new under the sun. Governments, persecutions, prejudices, national sins- they are all evil, and they all come and go and have done so for thousands of years. It will not end with the protests and social media outcries. It will end when the King of Glory comes back to judge and to reign, and then you’ll find that the best thing you could possibly have spent your time on was heralding His coming, and influencing every person in your path to be ready for His coming and the peace, justice, and redemption He’ll bring for every people, tribe, and tongue.

In Colossians chapter 1, the Apostle Paul observes of the believers in Colossae that their love for one another is so pervasive and encompassing that news of it was traveling far and wide- He observed that the REASON for that love was because of WHERE their Hope lay- in heaven. With Christ.

Peace to all. ❤️

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” – John 6:35-40
